Wedding Date

Posted by on January 10, 2014 • Filed Under Wedding

Before getting engaged, Juan and I had talked about when we would like to get married. We agreed that it would be best to have a wedding around Christmas time. Personally, it’s my favorite time of the year and I would love to have my wedding when it’s more festive and colder (colder as you can get in Puerto Rico).

Wedding Date

That’s the date we decided: December 20, 2014. It’s 11 months and some days away so we’ve started doing all the essential things that need to be done now. We already booked the reception venue, and we’re in the process of choosing a venue for the ceremony (we’re not doing a religious ceremony so it has been hard finding a place we can use). I knew there was a lot of stuff to plan, but never knew to what extent. Thank goodness for theknot.com‘s wedding planning checklist, it has helped wonders.

I created a wedding category on the blog, all wedding related posts (planning, pictures, etc) will be posted there.

If you’re married, what was your wedding date? If you want to get married, when would you like it to be?

I'm not sure when I would like to get married. I've never really thought about it. Probably sometime in June since it is my birthday month and just my favorite month of the year. :) Start of summer break for people in the states, end of summer break for people in Australia and other countries...it is just an awesome time of year. Congrats on deciding a date and on the engagement!

Congratulations! :) Our date was set for 1st August 2009 - middle of the year away from any family birthdays etc. So it would make it a quiet month celebration wise. Unfortunately that date didn't happen, but when we do decide to finally make it down the aisle once we can save and stop having kids I think I would still like that date :)

Oh my, congratulations! Weddings are beautiful in so many ways and I'm excited for you! December weddings are awesome as I am a fan of cold days. But if I was to ever get married, I would like my wedding to be in the fall - with all that color!

Thank you so much Connie! A wedding in the fall would be beautiful. If Christmas time wasn't my favorite holiday I would probably have chosen a date during Fall.

Congratulations on your engagement & your date, Nicole! I live in California so I've always wanted a wedding during late spring, early summer, but not before my birthday (May 30th)...so June! Spring is a beautiful time of the year, but so is Autumn. I guess I just always wanted a season that wouldn't be too cold & wouldn't be too hot. Also, you have to consider when flowers are blooming & what not so what better time than spring when they're all blossoming?! http://blog.us.cision.com/2012/07/top-50-wedding-blogs/ This should help you get inspired. My favorite has always been Style Me Pretty. They have lots of beautiful vendors, photographers, ideas, etc! I'm not even close to being engaged, but I love weddings & I love staring at all the pretty pictures. It's like living vicariously through everyone since realistically, you only want to marry once & I'm no diva who'd renew my vows before a decade (lookin' at you, Mariah......). So yeah, best of luck with everything! Try looking at outside vendors...well, never mind, you said you wanted it in the winter. If there are any vineyards or beautiful restaurants, or RESORTS, those would be great places to get married at. I was in Puerto Rico a long time ago & we stayed at a beautiful resort. I'm pretty sure I saw someone get married there...it was breath taking.

Thank you Tiff! :) I agree, spring would be perfect with all the beautiful flowers! Thank you for the link, I've been following some of them for a while now. I've loved weddings since I was little and I browsed wedding websites even when I didn't even plan on being engaged, hehe. Style Me Pretty is one of the best ones. The resorts are beautiful here but incredibly expensive when it comes to having activities there. We want to spend as little as possible, that's why we're looking for the most inexpensive options first. But I definitely appreciate your suggestions.

Congratulations on your engagement! I'll admit I'm a little jealous of you because you get so much planning time for your wedding & you two will actually get to enjoy your engagement period - make the most of it, it's a special time! Wil and I, unfortunately, weren't together during most of our engagement time because of the distance between us and the Visa process. We got married on September 21st, because it's the first day of fall and it's our favourite season (plus the Fall Equinox is supposedly a very positive and "powerful" day in many nature religions, we liked the knowledge of that.) You guys sound like you're right on track! Getting everything taken care of, I'm sure, will take a load off your back once the wedding date is starting to approach! :)

Thank you so much Maria! Everything is still all new to me and I'm very excited about the whole process. Fall is definitely my second favorite season, if the wedding wasn't set for December, I would probably do it between September and November. I really appreciate your well wishes, it means a lot *hugs*

Love the date! I always wanted a Christmas wedding as well, however, due to my internship and not wanting to spend money on a rental for a short time here in P.R., the wedding was moved to summer 2016. Have you thought about a park or garden for the ceremony?

Totally understandable, Juan and I plan on staying in PR for at least 5 years so we'll have to talk about the moving situation once we get closer to that time. I hadn't actually thought about a park or garden. We are trying to spend as little as we can and everything we've looked at is incredibly expensive. If you have any other suggestions, please let me know! I need all the help I can get, haha :P

We didn't have a wedding because I realized it was just too stressful to plan with everything going on at the time. We just went down to the courthouse and then had a reception later with family and friends, lol. He chose July 11, 2007 because it was his birthday and he figured he wouldn't forget our anniversary. Guess who forgot our 1st anniversary? Lol. Anyway, we plan on doing a renewal on our 10 year anniversary which is 3 years away. HOLY SHIT, I have to start planning. FUCK MY LIFE. Lol. Anyway, congratulations on deciding on a date! :)
